Pursuitist did a nice feature on my Zelle 1337 line.

We’re a bit taken with Liz McLean Knight’s Zelle Jewelry. It’s a mixture of all things beautiful, techie and geeky — and highly original. That integration between technology and fashion is truly an embodiment of Liz and her Zelle creations. So, following up on the previous idea I had, recruiting Phylum Sinter, Praveen, and I (er, as Quantazelle) to do a rotating remix using the online Monome / Tenori-On / APC-40 / Launchpad (ie matrix / grid-based sequencing, etc) flash clone, Nudge, I invited m50 to play with me. Nudge is a very simple sequencer with preset synths (harp, organ, fx, drum kit), and–as m50 discovered–the ability to create multiple patterns, meaning you’re not restricted to one 16 bar loop–one could actually make a song out of this lil flash app.

Anyway, the Pravy + Phylies + Zelle remix project was based on that platform, so that’s also the zelle+m50 deal that’s showcased below. M50 pointed out the additional functionality (more patterns) right as we finished, these are all just 16 bar loops thrown back and forth. Check it out, it’s neat to hear different musicians approach the same material and mold it into something that they are pleased with.

Sort of like it’s analog cousin, Open Channel is an non-curated musician’s showcase in a supportive, relaxed environment, except it showcases electronic music, either through DJing or Live PAs. You will get 20 minutes to show off what you do musically, and then listen to other people doing the same thing.

There are 12 slots open. The first 12 people who RSVP and pay will be guaranteed a slot. Playing order will be determined on t…he date of the performance.


You are also absolutely welcome to bring friends, or just come as a spectator!

There is a suggested donation of $5.


TECH STUFF:

* You will be plugging in to an open channel on the mixer with one RCA cable from your gear. We will have 2 people set up on the table and then use the mixer to fade between people when they are ready to go, without dead air. Please try to stick to the 20 minute limit so everyone gets a chance to play.

* There are no monitors, but the room is not huge and the space is carpeted.

* Please note that there is not a lot of room at the front of house, so try to keep your gear footprint to the smallest you can manage (ie: there is no room to set up a full drum kit, so don’t bring it). The ideal setup would be a laptop plus one or two pieces of outboard gear / MIDI controllers.

* You will be plugging into a Beringer mixer so you will need to have L/R 1/4″ mono plugs out

Scroll to MULTIKULTI on the call box to get buzzed in and go up to the 4th floor. The space is an art + media collective and gallery. BYOB.

Here’s the .tsi file for the M-Audio X-Session Pro for Traktor Pro that I used on my latest mix: “The Consequences.” The photo shows how I set up the top knobs and the rest is pretty standard, with soft-takeovers on the faders and effect knob. The file is not backwards compatible for earlier versions of Traktor.

OK, so shreds are essentially re-doing the soundtrack for live performances in a hilarious way. Sometimes they’re done so well that people think they’re real, like this Kings of Leon performance. Here’s the original so you can compare. High-larious.
