Renzo Gorrio was inspired to create a San Francisco IDM night from his experiences at the Miami-based label Schematic parties in his hometown. Often they featured live acts with an emphasis on electronic performance. DJs were used to warm up the crowd or segue into a more responsive late-night dance party mode. A similar focus remains in the San Francisco incarnation where the focus is on live performance in intimate venues that provide a unique opportunity to watch musicians perform their craft up close.

Previous IDP parties held at Underground SF were a success, featuring Romulo Del Castillo (Schematic, Phoenecia), bioMecanicoXanopticon (Hymen Records), Wake (Proximal Records) and  Alexandernaut (Gray Area).
